International Rugby League is in full force on both sides of the world!
While there are 18 Betfred Super League stars currently featuring for England in the ABK Beer Ashes Series against Australia, there are also players representing in the 2025 Pacific Championships.
In Week 1 of the Pacific Cup competition, New Zealand edged out Samoa 24-18, with Wakefield Trinity’s new recruit Jazz Tevaga impressing on the losing side.
Meanwhile, in the opening week of the Pacific Bowl, there was a high-scoring affair between Fiji and the Cook Islands.
Fiji emerged as 44-24 winners, with Huddersfield Giants’ Taane Milne producing a stellar showing of 101 metres, two tackle busts, three offloads and 25 tackles in his country’s victory.
Castleford’s 2026 signing Semi Valemei also made 124 metres from 13 runs for Fiji. The winger will later link up with the Tigers as pre-season preparations begin.
In defeat, Cook Islands’ Toulouse contingent Reubenn Rennie and Paul Ulberg were two standout performers, and their edge is something we are eager to see next year in Super League with the newly-promoted French side.
In Week 2, Papua New Guinea faced the Cook Islands in the Pacific Bowl, with a number of Super League stars in action.
The Kumuls defeated the Cook Islanders 40-28, with Leigh’s Lachlan Lam earning Player of the Match for a stunning performance.
Playmaker Lam made 167 kicking metres from a total of eight kicks, as well as two try assists.
Leopards teammate Edwin Ipape was alongside him and putting a trademark shift in, as was Liam Horne, who will be getting used to lining up with Ipape and Lam as he joins Leigh next season.
Jacob Alick-Wiencke will have also been familiarising himself with the above Leigh trio, for he is another of the club's 2026 recruits and will be another new face ready to play in Super League.
Hull KR treble-winner Rhyse Martin also stole the show for PNG, scoring on the 26th minute, kicking five goals and was his side’s top tackler with 34 tackles.

In opposition, Rennie got on the scoresheet and racked up the most metres for his side with 174. Esan Marsters also put on an incredible display.
Finally, Tonga and Samoa battled it out in the Pacific Cup, with Samoa running riot, 34-6.
A weekend of entertainment is on the horizon, which sees PNG come up against Fiji in a winner takes all battle, while New Zealand entertain Tonga, live on Sky Sports for viewers in the UK.
England will also face Australia as the ABK Beer Ashes Series continues on Saturday 1 November, with the Second Test heading to Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool (K.O. 2:30pm).
It’s a complete sell-out, with England looking to level the series!
The match will also be available to watch live on BBC One domestically, with information on overseas coverage available here.
